Introduction to API5L pipeline steel pipe/difference between API 5L PSL1 and PSL2 standards

API5L generally refers to the implementation standard of pipeline steel pipes, which are used to transport oil, steam and water pumped out of the ground
Pipelines that are transported to oil and gas industry companies. Pipeline steel pipes include seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes.
At present, the welded steel pipes commonly used on oil pipelines in my country include spiral submerged arc welded pipe (SSAW) and straight seam submerged arc welded pipe.
(LSAW), electric resistance welded pipe (ERW), and seamless steel pipe are generally selected when the pipe diameter is less than 152mm.
There are many steel grades of raw materials for API 5L steel pipes: GR.B, X42, X46, X52, X56,
X60, X70, X80, etc. Now large steel mills like Baosteel have developed pipelines with steel grades X100 and X120
steel. The steel grades of steel pipes are different, and the requirements for raw materials and production are higher, and the carbon equivalent between different steel grades is strictly
controlling.
Everyone knows that when it comes to API 5L, there are two standards, PSL1 and PSL2.
The contents of the two standards are vastly different. This is similar to the GB/T9711.1.2.3 standard, which all say the same thing,
The requirements are different. Let me talk about the difference between PSL1 and PSL2 in detail:

  1. PSL is the abbreviation of Product Specification Level. The product specification level of line pipe is divided into PSL1 and PSL2, which can also be
Say the quality level is divided into PSL1 and PSL2. PSL2 is higher than PSL1, these two specification levels are not only different in inspection requirements,
Moreover, the chemical composition and mechanical performance requirements are also different, so when ordering according to API 5L, the terms in the contract are not specified.
In addition to the usual indicators such as grid and steel grade, the product specification level must also be indicated, that is, PSL1 or PSL2. PSL2 in Chemistry
Composition, tensile properties, impact energy, non-destructive testing and other indicators are all stricter than PSL1.
  2. PSL1 does not require impact performance, PSL2 for all steel grades except x80, full-scale 0°C Akv average: longitudinal
    To 241J, lateral 227J. X80 steel grade, full-scale 0°C Akv average: longitudinal 2101J, transverse ≥68J.
  3. The water pressure test should be done one by one for the line pipe, and the standard does not stipulate that non-destructive replacement of water pressure is allowed, which is also the API standard
A big difference with our standard. PSL1 does not require non-destructive testing, and PSL2 should be non-destructive testing one by one.
